If your trip intersects with one of the classes offered by the Philadelphia Canoe Club, you can get out on the Schuylkill River yourself to experience what many residents enjoy throughout the open season.

There are a number of options if you want to go horseback riding in Fairmount Park.
There are currently 60 miles of paved trail along the Schuylkill River. So you’re most likely going to run out of steam before you do trail (Forrest Gump excepted).
This map contains a number of fantastic picnic spots in Fairmount Park. The Belmont Plateau (Belmont Grove on the map below) has exceptional cityscape views (and grills).
In addition to your option to skate along the Schuylkill River Trail, Paine’s Skate Park (map) offers 30,000-square-feet of rails, ledges, transitions, and benches for skateboarders. And all with a view of the Schuylkill River and Philadelphia Museum of Art.
