Whether you just moved to the area or have been here for years, it’s always nice to find ways to connect with others in the neighborhood with similar interests. Here are a few sites that help you toward that end.
Nextdoor is a great way to stay in the know about what’s going on in your neighborhood, whether it’s finding out about fun events in your area, learning about an upcoming block party, or hearing about a rash of car break-ins. By default, the site shows your full address. If you want to protect your privacy, you can remove the street number from your address by going to Settings > Privacy.
You can pretty much name your passion — books, coding, wine tasting, dancing, poetry, etc — and find others in your area who share it and get together regularly.
Meet the Neighbors
Meet The Neighbors is an ongoing endeavor to create friendships and community between people who live in the same building or immediate neighborhood. The site aims to help people build real-life, offline relationships that with people in your area. You have to sign up for the program (it’s free), then join your neighborhood. Not every neighborhood is included, but there is a Fairmount group. After searching by zip code and selecting it, you’re placed in an approval queue.
This is the perfect network for active people. Find events like marathons, climbs, mud runs, glow runs, mountain biking, camping, etc.
Smacktive is a niche, meet-in-person social network that connects like-minded people for healthy activities based on deep rooted likes and interests. Chat with others about any type of activity you have in common to go do together.
WeGoDo is a mobile app that connects you to nearby people interested in the same hobbies and activities as you. Simply search for your activity or interest and connect. The site publishes safety guidelines, but you obviously want to exercise caution when meeting up with people you don’t know.
An initiative of the popular app, Instagram, InstaMeet is a group of avid Instagrammers who get together to take pictures and video to share with each other and a bigger community online.
